Many people do not realise that they may not be utilising their vehicles effectively if their car is not running at peak performance beacause your fuel economy can be effected by small problems occuring within the car itself resulting in unnesecary cost that may be otherwise avoided.
These simple problems can be identified early if you are in the habit of regular maintanance and check ups avoiding any massive repair bills in the long run as well. Regular maintanance work will also ensure that you car is operating to its full capacity in the safest environment and under top working order.
Some checks are simple and routine that even you could complete on yoru own which will also help maintain your overall costs that you may otherwise incur,
1. You can do a visual check around the car to ensre there are no fluid leaks. If you do notice any leakage then you should be able to identify where this is coming from based on the colour of the fluid.Automatic transmission fluid is pink, oil is black, coolant is a bright greenish yellow, and power steering and brake fluids are clear.
2. Every time you fill up your car you can make it a habit to check your tyre pressure with a tyre gauge. Your vehicle’s recommended tyre pressure (PSI) will be listed on the side of the tyre. You could also look for any uneven wear and tear at the same time.
3. You should open the hood of your car and have a look around. You should look for any signs of a cracked radiator hose, split spark plug wires or loose clamps and corrosion around the battery terminal.
4. Ensure that all your major fluid levels are in line with the manufacturers recommendations. These include engine oil, engine coolant levels, transmission fluids and power steering fluid.
5. You should test your brakes manually and make sure that these are well balanced. This can be done by finding a staright, flat stretch of road and by lightly resting your hands on the wheel. You must then apply the brakes gentl and evenly. If the car pulls to one side or another this means that your brake pads may be uneven and your brakes may require some adjustments.
The above tips are just a few simple ideas or steps on how you can go about saving some money on your overall fuel bill as well as ensure that your car is in top working condition.
